The best Michigan XC runner of all-time on what may have been the best team. Think of our history – we’ve had Grant Fisher, Hobbs Kessler, Riley Hough, and many other Footlocker/NXN finalists, and no one has gotten within 30 sec. of Dathan Ritzenhein. His 236.2 speed rating is the highest I’ve recorded and it’s right up there with TullyRunners speed ratings of all-time.
The Rockford team was something special as well. The Rams varsity squad went 14:10, 15:20, 15:23, 15:27, 16:14, 16:19, 16:46. Even without Dathan, that’s commonly enough to win a state title. With him, that’s the highest top-five average that I’ve ever come across. 2nd place Novi was no slouch, having 2001’s national champion Tim Moore as their SECOND runner. He trailed Chris Toloff, who will go down in history as one of the better runners to place 2nd in Division 1.
