The Rundown

Just like her brother, Natalia has been a revelation, for me at least. As a middle schooler, Natalia was good, but certainly not to the level she displayed in 2022. She started her freshman cross season with inauspicious beginnings, three straight 20 min.+ performances. Buslepp squads start strategically slow, running sparingly on tougher courses (Holly, Possum Hollow) or long ones (Lamplighter). But even with that said, who could’ve predicted what she’d unleash the rest of the fall and into spring? Sub-20’s each time from mid-September on, including top-10 finishes at MAC Division, Macomb County, and Region 9, then even reaching as low as 18:55 at Shepherd. If you think her growth halted, you’re sadly mistaken, as her near miss of a sub-11 (11:04) won the Macomb County 3200m crown. She’ll have plenty of girls to train with, older, younger, and in her grade, so watch how Natalia and these Romeo girls grow over the next few years.
