The Rundown

Grand Rapids Christian has had some great ones over the past few years – Justin Varineau, Tinsae Nelson, Ben Zwart. But none of those three, at least in terms of time (Varineau was one spot higher at State), were able to reach what young Simon did in his 10^th grade year. After October 1^st, during championship season, Simon was able to finish in the 15’s on over 50% of his races. Among those were a regional title, top-10’s in the OK White and Portage, and an All-State. That ability to grind through late season distance races came through again during track, where Simon outlasted 36 other competitors in that massive D2 3200m field to finish 7^th. Mind you, he was 6^th in his REGION two weeks prior. At the state level, he placed 2^nd amongst all from Region 13. That experience and success in gigantic moments will be great during the next two years and this fall as his Eagles are in the hunt for the grand prize.
