The Rundown
From Oakland County to State, then back again from Oakland County to State, Solomon is a kid that has excelled during the championship portion of the year. There have been doubts, there have been injuries, and there’s been a ton of improvement.
During 2020-2021, Solomon’s initial foray into high school running, he was a freshman who stayed above 18:00, 5:00, and 11:00. Solid times, but nothing that would predict the sophomore and junior years that he’s experienced. Cranbrook, along with many schools in the region, tends to run tougher courses, so his times are a bit muted, but the ratings suggest a sophomore season full of sub-17 efforts, confirmed by his times at MITCA and D2 State. More than a minute improvement, setting the stage for the real transformation during track, where he took his 1600m from 5:05 to 4:24 and 3200m from 10:57 to 9:22
Plagued by injury issues, he had a late start to his junior year, opening in mid-September. Three weeks before the County meet, hardly much prep for a competitive finish. Well, for mere mortals, that is. As others burned themselves out before the double hill, Solomon patiently traversed the Possum Hollow course en route to a 3rd place finish. And that just kicked off the championship portion full of the top finishes mentioned above: Catholic League, Region 16, all before ending upon the 9th spot at State. Track saw more of the same: blasting a 9-flat, placing high at County and State. All those championships are available to be won this year, there will be tough competition, but I know he’s game for it.
