How Right/Wrong Was I?

12 for 12. Furthest region from home and the best prognosticating. How does that work?

STRONG AS IRON

I will highlight one kid from each race for a little writeup. With Regionals and their survive and advance attitude, I’ll try to shout out someone who extended their season another week when they weren’t expected to, or contributed to a team that came in with a clutch performance. Of course, that leaves out many athletes who gave a great effort, and all of the athletes that were winners for toeing the line this weekend. Congrats to all.

Drew Moore, Grayling

Drew’s had a late start to his senior year, but a race such as Saturday made up for lost time. I believe his 16:14 is a Grayling school record. Only his 2^nd sub-17 of the year (though one of many in his career), Drew has a high upside for these upcoming State Finals.

Cole Upper, Lincoln-Alcona

Has taken to this East Jordan course, grabbing a personal best on consecutive regional races these past two years.

Tessa Wohlschlegel, Beaverton

46 races deep, a State Finals appearance, and a few top-10’s in the Jack Pine, but no sub-20’s… until Saturday. East Jordan is a quick course, but quick courses don’t go run times, runners do. And seniors going out with a memorable experience come through on the big day, as Tessa did on the way to a nearly 45 sec. personal best.

Avery Langlois, Rogers City

The very very upper reaches of the Lower Peninsula is the one area south of the bridge that I struggle with. The NSL is too small to work on their meets, occasionally teams from this area travel to the UP (and I barely have enough time to work on the LP). So Rogers City might be a school that would get less attention. If Avery keeps running in the low-19’s, that’ll have to change. The Hurons’ freshman dropped 40 seconds from her previous season best to place 3^rd here.
