The Rundown

Sometimes, we must take our lumps and use them as fuel. For Jackson, that bad race may have been his XC State Finals. Hitting the mile in 4:58, one of 62 in the field under 5:00, he was right in the mix in the top pack. But what was looking like it may be an All-State bid wasn’t meant to be, Jackson instead finishing in 17:04. There’s a chance that those State Finals were on his mind during track. There’s an even higher chance they were firmly implanted in his head during his winter training.

Entering the season with big goals (shoutout to quality student newspapers!), Jackson embarked on a season full of improvement. A 4:25 freshman 1600m became a 4:19, and now he’s in the top-125 amongst the nation’s 10th graders. Dropping under 4:20, that was accomplished on regional day itself, and just as his regional day in the fall, Lam showed he’s capable of his best performances when it matters most. Further data points include his sub-2 at the Metro Health meet or a sub-16 at MITCA.

May the expectations increase and the times decrease.
