The Rundown
For the past few years, I’ve admired the bond of the Whitmore Lake girls. Many trips together, Starbucks runs, and of course, winning together.
Where the Trojans were winning invites as a team, Kaylie was winning them as an individual. Lamplighter, John Bruder, Holly, Portage, MIAC, Larry Steeb, Region 33. That right there is a list. Kaylie was hitting mid-18’s for many of those, then she kicked it up a notch at season’s end, racing to 17:44 at State and 17:39 at MITCA. Of course, while placing high, she contributed to Whitmore wins, coming in clutch in the most important one at State.
Talent is one aspect, her competitive spirit carries her to another level. All throughout middle school, Kaylie won. The tail end of her freshman year gave her a few defeats. What was her response? Win an indoor 3200m title (while playing basketball) and run a scorching 10:24 during that winter season.
The best always find a way to motivate themselves. I’m sure Kaylie is salivating at the prospect of winning her own D4 cross title.
