Lucas Kuhn, New Boston Huron
Lamplighter, maybe just a hype-filled opener. He’ll be back to reality soon. You break 17:00 on the Possum Hollow hills? This senior is for real.
Kuhn, a standout Huron League runner and state qualifier, appears poised to have a breakout senior year. His 16:03 at Lamplighter was more than a minute faster than his 2023 opener. A sub-17 here shows he has the strength to handle whatever adversity these Michigan courses will throw his way. He blossomed during track, racing to 4:20 for the 1600m and sub-2 in the 8. Now he’s added considerable strength. May be a diamond in the rough if you’re a college recruiter.
Rochester Adams girls
I’m not sure which day of training it is to be All-State, but El might have some company when she toes the line for those individual goals. Adams placed 2nd here in this D1-centric field and is looking more and more like a favorite to make it out of the hotly contested Region 8. Nearly four girls under 21 on this tough track, four of their five varsity scorers are in 11th grade or below. Already strong and much to learn.
