As always, these writeups below will shoutout someone or a team that stood out from the race. That may not be the best runner or the winning team. Perhaps a team that surprised, a runner breaking through, or a runner contributing to a team victory. Of course, if you come to me nicely and want to brag about a fellow team/competitor/teammate, let me know, and I’ll try to give them love further down the line.

BERRIEN BEASTS

If you know me, you know I love a good county meet. You get schools from all different divisions that are bound by geography. Often these schools have similar backgrounds and demographics, so you get a true test of who is the best in that region.

Gotta give some love to the winners, Landon Rogers and Madeline Young. Rogers won his first county crown, the win giving him three straight top-5 finishes. His 16:24 was a season best and sets him up beautifully for another run towards D4’s best. Young broke into the 19’s for the FIRST TIME EVER, quite a momentous accomplishment on the first big stage of the year. The senior Buck had been top-10 here twice before a bit of a setback during her junior season. No more setbacks though, she’s going at her senior year full steam ahead.

The Buchanan Bucks apparently weren’t satisfied with winning their first title since ’77. The #10 D3 team had improved since winning in 2023, however they faced a serious challenge from St. Joseph. John Keser showed up huge for the team, subtracting 40+ seconds from his lifetime best, the first of five maroon-clad kids in the top-15.

After a season full of high-20/21-min. performances, Preslee Perkins let it rip for Lakeshore. Her 20:25 was a season best and it wasn’t even close. Four consecutive top-5’s here for Perkins, this one aiding her Lakers in their first team trophy in 15 years.
