2025 Rankings: League Week Girls

This sport of ours gives us enjoyment all year. Trudging through the snow on wintry days, speedy circles around the track, fun summer runs. But does anything beat these final weeks of the year? The huge mid-season meets are done and we’re rolling towards races of great consequence. Lifetime memories have been accrued all fall and even more are to come.

Hopefully this batch of rankings validates what’s already occurred and gives motivation to what could come.

As with the previous rankings, all meets with over 50 participants of each gender are included (even if the ratings themselves aren’t posted to the site, they’re in my database). The rankings take the individual ratings from each race and weigh them using factors of recency, field size, and field competitiveness. Those weighted ratings are then sorted by team, scored against the entire division, and ranked. Thus, teams with more depth tend to be ranked a little higher than they’d be at a regular invite or even the State Finals. But I know no better way to rank all the teams in a division than to compare against all teams in a division.

These are filtered a bit, a runner has to have competed in a race since September 19th (Jackson/Cougar Falcon/VSV weekend) at a race I’ve rated. Hopefully this accounts for injuries.

As always, these are for fun and a vehicle to drive interest in the best sport in the world. If they cause undue stress or pressure or motivate you to write me unkind messages (only happened a few times this year, but gotta get out ahead of it!), this site might not be for you. That’s fine, the many XC fans of Michigan will enjoy it all the same.

Finally, An Individual Breakdown

She’s been the queen of D4 for a bit of time, laying it on the line for her Whitmore Lake squad the past two years. Each State Final has resulted in glory, team titles in each instance and a individual championship in 2024 for Kaylie Livingston. The path she’s taking in 2025 looks familiar, with sub-18’s in bigger races, wins at Holly and in her conference.

Libby Smith was the closest returner from last fall. The Gobles junior has taken a clear step forward, dropping into the 17’s at Otsego. Her 17:46 there was a 40 sec. subtraction from her sophomore best. She comes off a 3rd place Portage finish and an undefeated season in conference action.

Intriguing League Battles

The SAC and NWC, the two conferences containing multiple top teams, have finished their regular season. The NWC meets have been too tiny to consider for the rankings (although I’m making exceptions for the final ones). With the inclusion of this past one, we saw Maple City Glen Lake move up a few spots. Buckley was also there, finishing 4th (and 3rd in the previous two jamborees). Both teams placed behind Benzie Central and both would’ve won many other D4-centric leagues.

Kalamazoo Hackett, Gobles, and Martin (hanging out in 11th) all competed in the SAC Championship. Those three squads are the lone D4 teams in a conference full of D3 teams. With the exception of Saugatuck, the D4 teams beat all the other D3 teams.

Finally, An Individual Breakdown

This was probably the most intriguing race coming into the year. The most recent graduating class was full of girls that led D3 for awhile – Kyah Hoffman, Jessie Jazwinski, Emmry Ross, Lila Volkers, amongst others. Three D3 girls were present in the 50 Tickets – Samantha Schroeder, Hailey Creisher, and Hope Miller. And in these rankings, the three lead the way.

Creisher appears to be the favorite at this point. She owns the fastest time in the division (17:51 from this past weekend’s Greater Lansing) and the top-six ratings from any D3 girl. Evidence from these past few weeks show that both Schroeder and Miller are approaching championship season with their best material. Miller just claimed a Lenawee County trophy, traversing the tough Gerber Hill course with her fourth sub-19 of the year. Schroeder won against the best D3 field of the year at Portage, then notched a season’s best at Gabriel Richard.

Intriguing League Battles

Mentioned earlier, Saugatuck continued their season-long streak of SAC wins, placing three Trailblazers in the top-10 and holding off a Hackett squad that’s a podium contender of their own.

Lansing Catholic will be going for their 14th consecutive CAAC White title. The Cougars are strongly present in the upper pack of league races, placing 6 girls in the top-10 of each. A win seems to be a foregone conclusion. Of greater intrigue will be another test for Olivet. The Eagles were behind Charlotte in the first jamboree, then 2nd place in the next one. Another runner-up finish would further cement the team as a top-10 D3 squad.

Speaking of streaks, Grandville Calvin Christian has an OK Silver reign of the past 8 years. The Squires have met a bit of resistance this fall, with NorthPointe Christian winning the most recent jamboree, 41 to 42. As with many meets at this time of year, health is a factor in the final standings. If the Mustangs are fully loaded, this will be a dead heat.

Finally, An Individual Breakdown

Throughout the years, Emma Hoffman has had her handprints all over D2. Early on, it was a 2nd place finish at State. Two years later, another runner-up spot. On the oval this past spring, a double victory in the 1600m & 3200m. That track season was the springboard for this fall greatness. She only has one blemish, an admirable defeat to Natasza Dudek. Other than that, all wins, a few reaching into the 16’s. The future Colorado Buffalo has handled an uptick in training with grace and continued improvement.

In her wake, Katie Berkshire is still getting faster. Each high school season, she’s hit a new barrier. As a sophomore, that was the 18’s. A year later, many championship efforts in the 17’s. Then in late September at Bluejay, she eked out a 16:58. She’s undefeated on the year, having *just* won her 3rd consecutive BNC title.

Intriguing League Battles

More streaks! In the Wolverine Conference, Otsego retains one of 100+ dual meet victories. I’m no historian, but I gotta imagine their overall championships rival some of the above squads. In the course of this being written, the Bulldogs gathered five girls in the top-six slots to claim yet another win.

This is only the second season of River Cities Alliance competition, thus it’s tough to establish a lengthy history. That hasn’t prevented Coopersville from winning the three league meets in 2024 and two from this current year. Whereas last fall’s races were of smaller margins, this year’s have been routs. Steady movement upward for the Broncos, who appear as if they’ll be a D2 force for a while.

Two races will have multiple top-10 squads: the OK Black and OK White. The Black contains #3 Grand Rapids Christian and #9 East Grand Rapids. EGR will look to improve from their 3rd place finish at the most recent jamboree and GRC will look for their 3rd conference win of the season. The Black holds a similar story, with #2 Holland Christian aiming for three league wins in three tries, #8 Spring Lake hopes to split up the Zeeland schools as they ramp up towards the conclusion of championship season.

Finally, An Individual Breakdown

It’s been all Natasza Dudek all year. The Pioneer sophomore has continued her upward trend that was established in the previous two seasons. She’s undefeated on the year and dominant against D1 competition, margins exceeding 30 seconds in every race against the competition she’ll see at MIS.

Three girls stand out as the chase pack – Rachel Smith, Sienna Klemmer, and Annie Hrabovsky. Smith comes off a Greater Lansing victory and is on the cusp of sub-17, hitting a 17:05 at Bluejay. Klemmer has proved that she can handle a variety of courses, hitting 17:12’s on the quick Otsego and Benzie tracks, but also persevering to a 4th place finish at the tough Spartan Invite. Hrabovsky has put it all together this fall, dropping a 30+ second personal best in her MAC Red championship and claiming a Macomb County crown after a year’s absence.

Intriguing League Battles

Both the KLAA and OK Red will be where it’s at. Sticking to the old school dual/tri format, we were blessed to have head-to-head matchup between #4 Brighton and #5 Northville. In early September at the Meadows, the Bulldogs prevailed by a single point. They capitalized on an early gap formed by Ella Lorenz and Lydia LaMarra, then barely held on through the remainder of the scoring spots. A single point then and a single spot now, this will be an excellent barometer of where each team stands with 2.5 weeks to go.

Holland West Ottawa has won each of the OK Red races, Hudsonville trailing slightly behind. Coming in strong as well is Rockford. Count that as three teams in the top-11. The former two squads are coming in fresh after a weekend off, Rockford will attempt to apply momentum from a Kent Ottawa meet where the Rams placed four girls in the top-eight.
