MIXC vs. REALITY
The Region 15 Girls race was wild. The projections thought Shepherd would be slotted in fourth, but the Bluejays would have such a great chance of placing four in the top-20, that they’d end up being favorites to advance. The home team did do that, but found their way into 3rd place. Thus, it was on Freeland to be extremely strong through four. That was projected to be a possibility, though Gabriella Dallas and Grace Kloha had to be on top of things. They both were, with Kloha hitting a significant personal best and Dallas matching the outstanding Saginaw County meet from last week. With four teams and seven individuals, Region 15 will be WELL represented in Brooklyn.
The rest of the races were pretty chalky, so you get some individual shoutouts:
Nolee Leppert, Beal City – projected 14th, placed 5th. Nolee had been at this level before, qualifying for State twice, but not this season, where her prior best was a 22:12 here at Bluejay. With her 21:42, she showed that you can throw out everything from 2025, this Aggie wants another run at the race track.
Spencer Dammann, Saginaw Swan Valley – projected 23rd, placed 12th. Was one of the many Vikings to put a scare into Frankenmuth, turning a projected 39-point margin into 13. Dammann has come quite a distance over the past two years, his 16:32 a full three minutes quicker than the 19:40 he ran at the PROM race here as a freshman.
Rush Marsden, Fulton – projected 8th, placed 3rd. Summoned the late season heroics he showed last year, when he busted out a 30+ second personal best at State. He’s not at that level quite yet, but did attain his best regional finish ever.
