MIXC vs. REALITY
Both the boys’ and girls’ races featured heavy favorites for the top-two, then a slight favorite and slight underdog for the third spot.
The boys’ race kept the same qualifiers, although Webberville moved up a spot. The 17 point difference between their projected figure and actual total was generated mainly via senior Ethan West. After much of the season spent north of 18:00, he’s been barreling toward his 2024 best. Friday’s 17:26 was his fourth season best in a row and third All-Region finish.
I had mentioned in the preview that Novi Christian Academy was on the rise throughout October and that continued in Friday’s race. Their top-three girls performed about as expected, but it was Miriam Jiran with the breakout performance. The sophomore had opened the year above 30 min. and now has dropped down to the mid-23’s. Her 24th place finish provided enough depth that her Warriors were able to advance, the momentum carrying over for another week of certain improvement.
