The Rundown

With the merging of Andover and Lahser, Bloomfield Hills High School was established in 2013. New program, new records, and ample opportunity for a runner to be the first to truly etch his name in Blackhawk history.

In two years, Taye has more than done that.

16:12 at 2022’s Corunna Early Bird. One

15:38 at 2022’s Muskrat Classic. Two.

15:35, aggressively racing away from the field at 2023’s Holly Invite. Three

15:31, sticking his nose in with the state’s best. Four.

Four times breaking the Bloomfield Hills school record. In the nine years before Taye arrived to run on grass, the Blackhawks had zero All-State boys. He’s already pumped that number up to two, hitting 27th as a sophomore and 16th as a junior.

Many can succeed when carrying on a tradition. Not many can jumpstart one like Taye.

The Rundown

Freshman year of track, she found the sport.

Sophomore year of cross country, she built the foundation.

Sophomore year of track, the foundation + the speed were coming together.

Junior year of cross country, everything came to a head.

She’d shown speed on the track, playing a prominent role in Zeeland East’s 4×8, placing high in the OK Green’s 800m & 1600m. The previous fall, she’d displayed a rabid consistency all year and even broke into the 19’s on a few occasions.

Emma’s junior year began on a much higher note than the previous year, running 80 seconds faster than she had at UTL. And then she descended those times rapidly. 19:20 became 19:03, that turned into 18:44, and before you know it… 18:12. That same ability to hit similar times lasted into championship season, as Emma ran in the low-18’s at Region 11 (3rd place) and State (7th place), before giving us one last step forward, 17:57.

Senior year of cross country, a conclusion I can’t wait to view.

The Rundown

Streaks broken, championships accumulated, all under Ronnie’s watch.

Flash back to 2022, Silveira’s freshman year, a season that was near the beginning of Allendale’s renaissance. 18 years had passed since the Falcons had won a conference title. They were laced with quality athletes: Whalen, Gross, Tiethof, among others. And a freshman Ronnie, who placed in the top-10 in all OK Blue Jamborees, helping his team win their first conference title in nearly two decades.

A year later and Silveira showed much growth. He’d transformed from a kid breaking into the 16’s late to one that kicked off his season in that range. Top-10’s at Spartan and Portage followed, two wins in the OK Blue too. The 16:00 times had turned to a few 15’s, Allendale was now a top-5 team in the state, and with Ronnie hitting the line in 2nd, clinched their first regional trophy in 24 years.

It’s been a quarter century since the Falcons won a state title. Ronnie’s still out there.
