The Rundown

Each of the past two years, Lila has been featured on these 50 Tickets.

2022
2023

Do you know how one consistently makes this list? They constantly get it done when it matters.

Way back in her freshman year, Lila got it done as a part of a rising Kent City team. That team needed every girl on their best behavior. Lila filled that role well, running her fourth sub-19 of that year, placing 14th, and helping her Eagles grab the runner-up trophy.

Roaring off a personal best and school record, the sophomore Lila could have faced a letdown. Nope, didn’t happen, she moved up 9 spots from the year before to place 5th.

The junior version hadn’t been running as quick as the previous year. Lesser women may have folded and just wanted to end their season. Lila is no lesser woman, she runs to another All-State, 10th place finish.

Getting it done, year after year.

The Rundown

In only two full seasons, Landen has accomplished what many would desire to accomplish in four. Sub-16? Ran twice, each a closer at MITCA. The school record? All his with a whopping 15:25, again at MITCA. All-State? Accomplished in 2022 without having run at MIS before.

Following an outstanding freshman track season where he barely was on the high side of 10-flat and sped to 4:32, it was only natural that Landen would find his way onto Frankenmuth’s XC roster. When donned the Eagle jersey for the first time on the grass, it was as if he’d been there all along – 16:21. Frankenmuth runs a ton of races, and Landen was game for many of them, especially so come championship season. Top-10’s all throughout with one exception, 12th at State. We’ll take that one exception.

2023 was a bit stagnant for much of the year, staying at the same times and not stepping onto the MIS podium as he had in ’22. Which can be explained away by his lack of a track season the prior spring. One race did give hope and I’m sure has carried the motivation since, that 15:25 at Shepherd. Subtracting 25 seconds in a year proved that progress was there, it just had to be carried out in the right environment.

Landen’s past spring was much more full of activity (1:57/4:20/9:25). Expect a repeat of that sophomore season, but much faster.

Ryan Barnes

If the 50 Tickets were just based on track, there’s a good chance he’d be in there. Ryan’s 9:30 in the 3200m signified great improvement. Just think of it this way, his freshman 1600m best was 4:51, now he doubled the distance and subtracted 5 sec. off the pace.

Nate Linden

Past a middling September, just kept getting faster and faster. In a month’s time, Nate’s personal best jumped from 17:12 to 16:11.

Cayden DeGrendel

As these projections are partially based on last fall, Cayden could be a bit underrated. Take his State Finals for example – projected 76th, placed 48th.

Raymond Lucero II

Was moving toward an individual qualifier, but unfortunately his junior season was a bit disjointed. If he stays healthy, a candidate to mix it up in the top-10.

Mallory Bigelow

Can you believe the above two are seniors? I can’t.

Leah Corby

El McMahan

I believe this is Day 61 of training to be All-State in XC. El is probably running right now, in the midst of checking off another 60 mile week. Which has worked for her, as she boasted the 11th fastest freshman 1600m in the State.

Addison Herr

Spent the mid-season running tough terrain such as Holly, Hess Hathaway, and Possum Hollow. And all those races were in the 19’s, so you knew the payoff would come late. Addison finished the year just barely above 19 with a 19:09 at State.

Olivia Jenney

Faced with the same schedule as Addison, Olivia underwent an even more dramatic time drop. Of course it was her first year of cross, but going from the 21’s to 19:38 is remarkable.
