The Rundown

A sub-19 opener, two minutes faster than what she’d ran the year before. Moving from beyond the top-10 into the top-3 in the OAA White. Wins at Gabriel Richard and the Lake St. Clair Early Bird. Earning an All-County selection. Leah was on the correct course for state level success, until she wasn’t, a late season sickness standing in the way of late season glory.

What does a potentially great runner do? Respond. Where Leah’s freshman season was a precursor to those early fall accomplishments, her sophomore track season was the realization of what could’ve happened in the fall.

The same accomplishments resulted, racking up league dual wins, placing high at prominent invites. Then fully healthy, the championship heroics began. Two state qualifiers in heat at Rochester, an Oakland County title in the 3200m, a personal best of 5:01 in the 1600m (dropping 10 sec. from 2023). The capper, what she’d been waiting for, two top-12 finishes at State.

Some redemption has appeared, more is to come.

The Rundown

Those Alma boys come in running and they come in running FAST.

So fast even that long held school records aren’t safe. Thomas Larson started the record-busting tradition back in ’22. Then him and Zeke kept it rolling last year. I think this graphic sums it up better than I could write:

And it doesn’t even include Zeke’s 15:39 from the MITCA Meet of Champions.

Thinking in terms of the entire state, Baltierra can hold his own as well. His 15:47 at State was the 2nd fastest time of any freshman, any division. Thinking in terms of how he ranked on the track, both his 4:21 and 9:24 ranked 4th amongst all the state’s freshmen.

Competitive in Panther history and against his peers.

Harper Wesley

Lucas LaMilza

Changed man and runner as a junior. Luke was largely above 18 in his debut sophomore season, then was in the 16’s for much of his junior season.

Luke Morehouse

Another Morehouse that’s found their way in the sport, Luke could possibly grow from his mid-16 times from last fall. Moved from 4:40 to 4:30 in the 16, placing 3rd in the MAC White and 8th in the county in that same event.

Colton Howell

You know I love a good improvement arc, what about 50th in Region 9 to 15th? All in one year.

Luke Allen

If his 4:32 in track is any evidence, may be the next man up for a proud Romeo tradition.

Annie Hrabovsky

Natalia Guaresimo

Emmerson Clor

Lillian Deskins

Yep, four Romeo girls to go in the 50 Tickets.

Olivia Purdy

Grace Grupido

Inching her way down toward state prominence on the track, which should carry over to XC. 9th in the 800m with a huge PB (2:16). A 3x State qualifier, she can hang on the grass as well.

Violet Hrabovsky

Despite suffering a rough ankle injury, gutted out races here and at State, placing 6th and 99th respectively. Regardless of injuries, she’s been in the 18’s each of the past two years and All-State in 2022.

Emma Brown

Came into her own in late May, winning the MAC White, then running 11:13 to qualify for State, where she placed 25th.

Katelyn Frazier

Part of the reason that the Ramblers have found their way toward the top of the Macomb County competition is their ability to bring girls along. In many races last year, Katelyn was over 1.5 minutes faster than she was in 9th grade.
