The Rundown

When you enter the 2023 season as the #2 team in D2, right in the mix to hoist a trophy, you need all the contributions you can receive. The Eagles popped bottles in early November and Ellie was a big help.

Coming off a 19:29 close to her freshman fall and a spring that contained 5:30/12:00, Ellie was a definite contender for a varsity spot on her high-quality team. With an 18:51 opener at Benzie, she more than affirmed that she’d be a key member of a team with high aspirations. Ellie ran in the 18’s on over 60% of her remaining races, three of those being the OK White Championship, Region 11, and the State Finals, all of which that GR Christian won. As the seniors have now moved on, new leadership is needed and this junior has shown the tools necessary to be a frontrunner for the Eagles.

The Rundown

St. Louis’s late-season heroics are well-known in D3 circles and Landon is one shining example of the Sharks’ championship excellence. Each of the last three years, he’s delivered his best performances as the season drew to a close. As a youthful freshman on their state championship squad, he came through as the fifth boy, hitting a personal best in the process. In 2022, another personal best, far and away his highest rating of the season, and a podium spot.

This past fall, it was again appearing as if the Sharks could make a surprise bid for the podium. They’d need clutch performances from each of their top-five to get it done. The pressure was on Landon, but looking back, we all knew he’d come through. His 16:01 wasn’t his fastest time of the season, but it was his highest placing to date, a 10 spot that helped the Sharks grab the 2nd place trophy. These constant displays of high-quality November racing will undoubtedly help St. Louis in the 2024 season.

Brody Karg

Your defending Region 35 Champion. Brody’s 16:21 here was a significant personal best and a race that first established himself as someone to be thought of in the D4 discussion. Since that point, he’s racked up three All-States, one a week later with a 14th place. The other two during a superb double, 8th in the 1600m and 4th in the 3200m.

Carson Burgess

The final All-Stater in D4, Carson gravitated into the 16’s in his final three races.

Samuel Shatto

Big dark horse in the D4 scene for the upcoming years. After inching down towards the 16’s during cross, underwent a huge breakthrough during track. A state qualifier earned at Deckerville’s regional led to the opportunity to show his value at State, which Sam did to the tune of a 9:54 3200m and 9th place.

Matthew Pasiak

Over 5 min. improvement from his debut cross country race. Ripped a 16:58 at Ubly that was mixed within a string of eight straight sub-18 efforts.

Turlough Bennett

Ended his junior season on an extremely high note. Barely missed a sub-17 here then had the best finish of his three State Finals appearances, placing 50th.

Katie Sweeney

Nearly 30 races into her high school career, Katie picked a good time to slip under 20:00, the State Finals. Her 19:50 there was good enough for 25th place. Carried the momentum over to track, where she again qualified in the 1600m.

Lilah Kiley

Last year’s winner and the previous year’s runner-up. Has been in the 19’s each of the past two seasons. Likely a little underrated here because she spends her springs in the sprints. These past few months in the 400m have included a school record and 15th place finish at State.

Kyra Beemer

Just came off her best 3200m season on the track, running 12:40 and placing 28th at D4 State.

Reece Wruble

A mainstay here in Region 35, placing in the top ten each of the previous three years, and as high as 4th as a freshman and junior.

Cara Prusakiewicz

Began her career with a series of 25:00+ races, then popped a 20:59.9 at her last race. We’ve still got two more years to go!

Sarah Nimtz

USA senior has spent all three years in the 21’s, finishing top-10 in Region 35 twice. This spring, nabbed her first ever sub-6 in the 1600m.
