Top Returners

Carina Burchi

Building upon her 4th place finish at XC State, Carina went on to capture conference and regional titles in the 800m and 1600m, then place All-State in each.

Natalie Meadows

Just underwent her best track season yet, erasing 45+ seconds from her 3200m and winning a MIAC title in the event.

Elodie Weaver

Tried her hand at the 5k distance at the ’21 MITCA race, displaying a form that she’d continue into high school. Top-100 at State, top-15 in Region 33, and even snuck under 21:00 once.

Sofia Robertson

Mid-distance star on the track, qualifying for State in the 400m, then a few days later, winning the MIAC. Even bumped her way up to a 2:36 in the 800m.

Ciara Parsons

Has reduced her time by at least a minute every single year. The Region 33 example was going from 23:19 and 24th to 21:52 and 15th, helping the Trojans earn another trophy.

Isabella Nelson-Daniels

Freshman year contained a precipitous drop from the 25-28 min. range to the 22’s, a level she kept at in 2022.

Potential Newcomers

Kaylie Livingston

Undefeated in the 8th grade when competing against Michiganders. Even when stepping up and racing against high schoolers, she stepped right in there, finishing 3rd in the MITS 3200m.

Abigail Watenpool

On the cusp of breaking 15:00 on many occasions.

The Rundown

The Mustang alums are on record saying he could win a State Title and given his rapid progression, I don’t see why that can’t happen this fall or next spring. You can look at track or you can look at cross for prime examples. At the regional scene, he placed 24th as a sophomore, qualifying for State, but barely sneaking under 17:00 on a normally quick Portage course. Contrast that with this past year, a 15:55 in a hot race. Given his 15:38 two weeks after and another sub-16 at State, that’s quite a change between the two years.

Or, take a peek at track, where he flashed excellence in all events. I’m guessing the power and speed acquired in the 800m (2:07 to 1:59) had a huge help in his other events (4:29 to 4:15, 9:50 to 9:17). Though, no matter what happens in terms of titles, we know Logan is on an excellent path, ready to lead his Mustangs toward another State Finals berth.

The Rundown

From her freshman year to now, Ally has undergone tremendous growth. Way back in 2020, she had a solid freshman year, ending in the mid-20’s, placing top-10 in the OK Green. But nothing like the form she’s shown over the past five seasons. The transformation began during her freshman season of track, where she was able to slip under 5:30 and 12:00.

The transformation accelerated into cross and hasn’t let up in the past two years. Accolades have followed – two All-States on the grass, four on the track. That’s been at both the Division 2 and Division 1 levels, on a relay, with her Chix squad, or by herself. Adversity and a mid-season slump (19:00+ at the OK Green and Portage) couldn’t slow her down during cross, injuries over the winter and early spring couldn’t puncture her confidence come June. And all while this magnificence has been going on, she’s brought along a new generation of ZE girls. The consummate teammate, grateful to enjoy all the experiences during her senior year.
