Top Returners

Ava King

2022 season started well, but looked to come to an abrupt end. Ava returned for her Titans and helped them finish 12th in Division 1.

Abby Veit

One of a thousand freshmen for TCW, Abby’s season contained multiple sub-19’s at big meets. Even her slower times produced huge wins, such as a Northern Michigan Championship.

Bailey Wenzlick

In a season full of high-19:00 efforts, Bailey combined all her great race vibes to give us a masterful performance at Shepherd, where her 18:58 placed 12th.

Peyton Tucker

Started her season a little more slowly than some of the others, but ended in much the same fashion. 6th in Northern Michigan, 12th in the Big North, and 14th at Region 2.

Reese Smith

Established herself as an 800m name to watch in the future and in the present. A 2:14.5 won the Record Eagle meet. Not bad at the 1600m either, having run 5:26. If that track season carries forward into cross, the Titans are even more frightening.

Alyssa Fouchey

A solid freshman year ended with a 21:28 at Northern Michigan. An even more solid sophomore year featured many sub-20’s.

Payton Lamb

The final one of the TCW class of ’26 that I’m writing about here. As with her friends and teammates, another one that ventured into the 19’s by the end of the year. What this group have may be special – when you have a ton of teammates training at the same pace and one hits it out of the park, it gives the others confidence that they too can hit a home run. This season, watch to see if one of TCW’s youngsters have a breakout race, then come back to find that the others follow.

Potential Newcomers

Bridget Raven

Big North 3200m champion, who the next week ran 12:17 at the Mid-Michigan MEGASTAR.

Bronwyn Shullick

Closed her middle school season with five consecutive sub-14’s.

The Rundown

Stepping into a pressure-packed cross-country season, high expectations, the speedratings guy ranking your team #1, with the potential of being one of the better Division 4 teams ever. Many first-year cross country runners may have folded. Jackson accomplished the opposite, putting together a solid year with a speedy end.

He, along with his Puma teammates put the state on notice with a 16:34 at Under the Lights, winning the Twilight race over a field of D1/D2 teams. Having played soccer and only one season of track, it took a bit of time to get acquitted to racing on grass. Come late September, he was able to reach the low-16’s at Allendale. Come late October, he mastered the Allendale course and then mastered adverse conditions at MIS. Now the Pumas have moved up a division, defending their title in a new realm, where Jackson will take the lessons he learned and hopefully apply them to another title.

The Rundown

Keeping the Nelson/Grand Rapids Christian connection alive, Naomi has been a valuable contributor to the Eagles over these past three years. Early on in her freshman year, she showed great potential, racing to a sub-20 at Pete Moss.  These past two years, she’s racked up numerous honors – whether that’s an All-State in 2021 or a top-10 in the OK White this past year. Her championship season this past fall was a bit stunted, as she was a scratch at the State Finals until the very last minute. Come Saturday, she courageously competed, but clearly not in her form from earlier in the year. But in doing so, she helped her GRC girls grab 3rd place. They’ll likely be in another D2 battle in a few months here. With All-State experience plus a yearning to get back there, I can assure you Naomi will bring everything she’s got when she steps on the line.
