Top Returners

Aiden Harrand

Will obviously get a bigger writeup further down the line, but I wanted to note one stat when viewing her profile. By my count, she’s run 36 races at the HS level, winning 21 of those (close to 60%). The top teams will almost always have depth, but they’ll commonly have a low stick. Only taking home a singular point from one spot is helpful at any level.

Brooklynn Frazee

Along with Aiden, a major reason the Bears took home the D4 Team State title. Beyond her track exploits, this was a girl that was in the 21’s (and even one appearance in the 20’s) from October 1st onward.

Kinsey Peer

Cross country season had a pretty incredible gap from the lows to the highs. Starting well north of 30 minutes at Pete Moss, closing as an integral member of the 10th place Bear squad.

Addisen Harrand

Consistent growth throughout the course of her freshman year and wasn’t afraid of big stages. In the most populated fields (Shepherd, Portage, MIS), Addisen was within a few seconds of 22:45.

Potential Newcomers

Mikayla Kulawiak

Gradually got her time down into the 13’s by the end of the year and moved from 10th to 5th in the NWC.

Kaylee Swanson

Another that was top-10 in the final NWC Jamboree. But even better than that, 3rd in the NWC 1600m come spring.

The Rundown

This past track season, Ani truly took a step forward. The indications were there early in the season, when he nearly matched his 1600m best in an opener at the Huron Relays. Then when the meets began to heat up, at April Showers, Farmington, the times began dropping. On a cool night on Shiawassee Road, he nailed his first ever sub-2. In the driving rain on 6 Mile, he shot under 4:20, again for the first time. At State, with it all on the line for his Wildcat teammates, he handed off the stick in first after an excellent opening leg. All this talk about track, he can get it done in the fall as well, contributing on a Plymouth team that placed 6th as a team in 2022. His specialty might be the track thus far, but I have full confidence that Ani plus Coach Mikosz’s ability to churn out XC studs will result in an athlete that will move up in the ranks this fall.

The Rundown

The age old debate for many prospective runners: cross country/track or soccer? This past winter, Sadey chose track, and the investment paid off, resulting in PBs of 2:23, 5:11, and 11:13. She’s unflappable, and this shows in the biggest moments, whether it’s a XC state title on the line in the fall, or leading off on the Pioneers’ 4×8. In June, during a scorching hot State Finals, Coach Collette and many from EGR knew the conditions would only favor Seyferth, gutting the 3200m out for the full eight laps, coming away with her best individual finish at the state level. With Drew to train with and the added confidence from a successful spring, watch out for this darkhorse come fall.
