The Rundown

Numbers can capture the trend, they aren’t always the greatest predictor. Looking back, we can see the signs that led to Seth’s breakout, but in no way could we anticipate his late-fall run.

What we knew is that late in his sophomore XC season, Seth had come into his own. Throughout much of the season, he’d race in the high-16’s, with the occasional 17+ effort. Held at the fast Riverside Park, the OK Red Championship served as the confidence builder. A 16:16 there led to another personal best at Regionals, then two weeks later, his first jaunt into the 15’s. A similar breakout occurred during track, where Conner pushed to a 4:19, earning a 6th place spot at the D1 Finals. Those two seasons combined would typically lead to a kid running in the mid-15’s.

Which Seth sort of did for a bit there. A few openers in the 15:50’s, then he progressed to the 15:30’s at Allendale, Ottawa Hills, and Portage. In the 12-day break between Portage and another OK Red Championship, a new Seth appeared. At that same Riverside Park, 15:12. The following week, 14:54. 5th at State. MITCA Champion. Seth was already superb at the close of his sophomore year. In 2023, he was nearly a minute faster.

What’s in store for 2024?

The Rundown

Don’t pay attention to the 19:28 at Milford. You can toss away the 19:06 at Spartan. 19:04 at Hansons, erase it from your memory.

When October rolls around, championships begin heating up, then the whole state descends upon MIS, Lucy brings her best material.

Take note of the accomplishments. Three All-States. Three Oakland County crowns. Wins in every OAA White race. Two regional victories.

Take note of the times. 18’s and 19’s all fall, each year dropping down to the 17’s for State and MITCA.

On the track, placed in the early legs of the 4×8, placing her Falcons in great positions to attain spots on the podium. Clutch when it matters.

The Rundown

Ann Arbor Pioneer is one of our legacy programs. Under the guidance of Coach Sleeman, they’re always making it to the State Finals, consistently in contention, and forever pumping out great talent. Kamari might be one of the, if not the best to walk those halls.

I don’t say that lightly, the times and stats speak for themselves. From the jump, he’s been an outstanding runner for the Pioneers. His first HS race ever was a little rustbuster, traversing the Cass Benton hills in 16:11. From then on, he was hitting low-15’s and winning races against the best competition in Southeast Michigan. By season’s end, his 15:08 at State earned him a 4th place finish in Division 1. That 15:08 was the fastest freshman in MIS history (30+ seconds faster than the previous mark) and the highest placing freshman in Division 1 in the MIS era (Ritz was 5th in 1997).

Track was a bit slower at the beginning, though by June, Ronfeldt found himself where he rightfully belongs. He led the D1 3200m for a bit before placing 4th. Two weeks later, a 9:11 in the NBON freshman 2 Mile. Converted to 3200m, that’s approximately 9:08.1, perhaps a freshman class record if there were a camera (either way, Ronfeldt and Romero would be worthy record-holders).

Samuel Baker. Ryan Good. Luka Hammond. Ezekiel Baltierra. Jack MacGregor. Bobby Jazwinski. Ben Romero. Many more athletes. And Kamari, too.

The class of ’27 is loaded with talent, good people, and names that’ll certainly go down in history.
