The Rundown

Gaining race experience, learning, then applying those lessons to awards and finishes. Alex has been a standout Wildcat since running onto the scene, dipping into the 16’s in his first major 5k ever, flirting with sub-16 as a sophomore. His State Final race as a freshman was as good as one could imagine, running at the level he had all year, placing in the top-100 (and the 34th best returner). However, that same race as a sophomore didn’t produce the same optimistic outlook.

Back to the drawing board, Alex dedicated effort toward track, which then carried over to his exceptional junior year. An early 15:58 at Willow let the state know that this was a different runner. It was a mark he’d better on four occasions in the ’23 season. One of them was a 15:34. Another was a 15:45 at MIS, applying those lessons from his first two years. Out hard, through the first two in under 10, sitting in 21st place, Alex gave himself just enough of a margin to hold on. He hit the line with a podium spot in hand, only 0.2 seconds to spare.

With three years of MIS under his belt, watch out for another outstanding performance in 2024.

The above kids are 50 Tickets members. One will have to wait a bit, the others are coming soon.

Owen Saylor

Incredible progression from a freshman that finished 76th in 2021’s regionals to a junior that won his conference title and placed 6th here in Region 13.

Sullivan Zietlow

Big goals in store for his senior year, and with the track season he just had, why wouldn’t he have them? 4:48 to 4:32 and 2:07 to 1:57 means more improvement is likely on the horizon.

Abraham McHugh

Showed the ability to run his best when it mattered most. 16:35 at State may not have been his best time, but it was one of the better performances. Of the 23 freshmen that competed that day, he was 4th.

Reece Davis

Leap from his freshman to sophomore year a major reason for Marshall’s outstanding year. Low-17’s to low-16’s, moved up 20 spots at the regional level, and into the top-50 at State.

More top-50 girls!

Berkley Holtz

Not only sprinters and high jumpers coming out of Sturgis. You’ve also got a 2x County XC Champ and 2x state qualifier.

Madison Johnson

End of her junior season was the best stretch of her career. Sub-20 in her final five races. One of them a personal best, another her best regional placing, another her best spot at State.

Preslee Perkins

Three years in the waiting, Preslee finally broke into the 19’s as a junior. Four times, to be exact.

Skylar Mejeur

Freshman year included multiple 19:xx performances and the 16th best freshman finish in D2.

Taylor Mitchell

A 2nd/3rd girl who’s already earned an All-State and a team state title will have great value for this Bulldog team. Three straight years running below 20 and finishing in the top-10 at the regional level.

The Rundown

Two different coaches, injured, uninjured, running in ovals, or running on grass, Cassie’s been through it all. She found success almost immediately, breaking into the 19’s on Northville’s trip up to Benzie. From then on, she’s been on her A game whenever she lines up. Three top KLAA finishes, three trips to MIS, two podiums coming from those. Nearly the same resume on the track, consistent finisher with her team and by herself at the D1 stage.

But all that fast racing doesn’t come without setbacks and adversity. Between her sophomore and junior year, Northville changed coaches. There was little change in Cassie, setting a new PB and again placing in the top-20 at MIS. This past track season was stunted, and although she wasn’t quite as quick as her 2023 self, Cassie still made the State Finals.

I’m sure this senior year will have challenges and I’m sure Cassie will be well-prepared to tackle them.
