The Rundown

There’s a certain magnificence in someone quietly going about their business, yet still elite at their craft. Alyson is extremely elite at this sport without much of the fanfare of others. Each and every year, she’s been in the top-4 at Division 3 State, the first two of those years contributing to a Pirate team title. She’s reached the 17’s in all of those seasons and at different venues too – Shepherd, Benzie, Freeland. There have been plenty of wins, such as Cougar Falcon, Allendale Falcon, Portage, the WMC, Region 20. One aspect of her career that stands out is the proclivity of bringing a solid performance when the stakes are highest. That’s what championship teams rely upon, and that’ll be what’s needed as Hart readies for another state title run.

Top Runners

I’m making a slight change for the Division 1 folks. Previous regional writeups had the top finishers, even if they were mentioned in the Top 10’s or 50 Tickets. Because so many Division 1 kids make up the top 50 returners (which makes sense, since D1 covers about 60% of the state), I’ll write about a few returners beyond those 50. This will hopefully extend a bit more coverage towards more deserving athletes. Some of the 50 have been covered, others will get their own post. Check the Summer Preview page or keep checking back until Thursday for those.

Lydia LaMarra, Brighton

After a great close to her cross season, showed her strength in the longer distances during track. Her 11:21.82 baaarely qualified for State, but qualified nonetheless. Lydia was one of three freshman girls to compete in the 3200m at Division 1 State.

Alena Blumberg, Dexter

From her freshman to sophomore year, moved up 10 ten spots at both the SEC Championship and here in Region 4, both good enough to win the bronze at each. Though neither ascent was as great as hers at the State Finals, where going from 69^th to 18^th emitted an All-State certificate.

Grace Tykocki, Grand Blanc

Another one of these rare cases where she runs one of her fastest races at State. Most these days succumb to a slightly slower course, Grace rises to the occasion. As a freshman, that was to the tune of a 50 sec. PB, during her sophomore year, that was nearly matching her regional effort.

Annabel O’Haver, Dexter

After Holly, her week-to-week improvement was staggering. A 20:12 on the rolling hills and sharp turns at Springfield Oaks gave way to a 19:14 at Jackson, which eventually led to a few sub-19’s late.

Elle Bissett, Brighton

Before her great improvement during track, had established a cross resume containing two years of sub-20’s.

Allison Mayer, Ann Arbor Skyline

Allison was everywhere in the spring, from the Lab in late March to the large screens at Hayward Field. And in between was a season where she set personal bests in the 1600m and 3200m, subtracting 30 sec. from her sophomore best in the latter.

Luke Campbell, Brighton

Following in the footsteps of his brother Jack, who was a mid-16 runner for much of his career as well. Gained valuable experience last fall, running his first State Finals race and placing in the top-15 in the KLAA.

James Latstetter, Flushing

Etched his name into my mind back in March with a 9:45 opener at SVSU. Ended his spring season with 3^rd places in the FML and Region 1, qualifying for State from the latter.

Tyler Brock, Brighton

His first ten freshman performances were above 20:00, two of his final three sophomore performances were sub-17.

Brady Millington, Brighton

I’m gonna be honest, thinking back to last cross season, I wouldn’t have known who Brady was. But he’s on my radar now, largely thanks to two sub-9:50 efforts during the spring.

Noah DeLand, Howell

I’ve been watching Howell slowly move their way up these past few years, with Noah being at the forefront as of late. His finishing stretch last year contained three sub-17’s and a top-20 placing here, a far stretch from the kid who was 48^th as a sophomore.

Top Returners

Josh Slocum

Waiting until October to get his season started, Josh quickly reacquainted himself to the cross courses,

Tucker Krumm

This marks three consecutive years that he’s been in the mid-10’s during TCSF’s 2 mile time trial. Each of the past two years have resulted in top-5 regional finishes and sub-17 efforts.

Riley Pattinson

Compare between the years. His freshman year concluded with the East Jordan PROM, running a respectable 19:10. A year later? Sub-17, top-10 finish, his season lasting one week longer.

Lewis Walter

Gotta love the Glads throwing results on athleticnet early in the year for me (and Tanner) to dissect. Lewis ran nearly 40 sec. faster than last year, a year where he placed 5^th in the LMC.

Owen Read

Fostered the ability to compete with strength this spring. A 10:18 3200m placed third in the LMC and was close to a minute faster than his freshman form.

Robby Myler

Nearly halved his place at the LMC, cutting it down from 25^th to 13^th, slicing nearly 50 sec. off his freshman best time.

Potential Newcomers

William Ready

Established himself as one of the better incoming freshmen in Northern Michigan by winning the Northern Michigan Meet of Champs 3200m.

Dex Nance

A bit inconsistent, but performed his best come later in the season. Sub-12 at Shepherd and another low-12 result at Zone 7.

Joseph Carlson

We have a transfer, folks! Joseph may not be an immediate impact, but he has championship experience, placing All-State in the UP Division 3 1600m, 3200m, and in XC.
