Shane Izzard

Petoskey lead guy has concentrated on the 800m during track and to great results. Qualified for State as a sophomore and barely missed a medal, then grabbed 8^th this past June.

Tommy Farley

Up and coming senior was Mr. Consistent late, running a string of 17:10’s at the most momentous gatherings of the year.

Dylan Odenbach

Setting up for his best cross season, evidenced by a track campaign where he set personal bests in all three distance events.

Brady Odenbach

These rankings only include kids that competed in the 2022 season, so Brady could be the hidden secret, perhaps unlocking a top-5 finish? After missing out on his junior year, he was able to come back for track, running 2:02/4:38 before season’s end.

Jack Lindwall

It’s the silent development of kids such as Jack that lead to year-to-year success. Lowered his sophomore best by a minute at Portage, but matched that on a much tougher Chip Hills course.

Zahar Rush

Track saw him bust out a top-20 freshman 1600m time amongst all D2 runners. Lets see if he can continue those high rankings come fall.

Parker Fettig

One of many Northmen who had an absolute day at Portage. His 17:21 was more than a 90 sec. improvement since his 2021 season.

Simon Licata

Freshman year laid the groundwork for what could be a successful career. Multiple sub-18 efforts, then notched a 10:59 during track.

Potential Newcomers

Jack Dumas

It’s hard to tell with Petoskey’s middle school schedule being so light, but he did speed to a 12:26 at their home invite.

Sophy Skeels

The now junior had her best two races of her career during championship season, a win at the SEC White Championship and 3^rd in Region 18. And she doubled back on that during track, ripping a 5:09 at the State Finals 1600m.

Anastee Davis

TWO WHOLE MINUTE jump in her PB, placing top-10 in Lenawee County, the SEC White, and Region 18 for the first times in her three year career.

Yoselin Fermin-Campos

Hard to believe this girl was having a tough time breaking 25:00 as a freshman. Now, she’s seven spots away from claiming an All-State.

Mavee Clark

Unlocked Adrian’s late season surge with a three race stretch of clutch performances. PB’s at the SEC White Championship and Region 18 helped secure 1^st place trophies, then her 20:52 at MIS may have been her most impressive of the bunch.

Potential Newcomers

Ayda Skeels

Could be the game changer for this Maple program. Won more than half of her XC races, then captured the SEC 1600m crown in the spring.

Carlee Bakewell

16 min+ openers that dropped down into sub-14’s at the final SEC Jamboree and in Zone 2.

The Rundown

Being witness to many of Taye’s races over the course of the year, let me speak to the growth he undertook in the past 10 months. Although there were some speedy efforts early in cross country, there were some hiccups too, especially in the OAA meets. Going out too hard early, paying the price as more experienced runners laid in the cut waiting to take over. But as the season wore on, he found himself more patient early, mixing it up late, and finishing ahead of Oakland County’s best, all leading to a 27^th place finish at State. During the spring, that attitude was evident in meets such as Farmington, where he let others control the pace for the first 80-90% of the race, then took over to capture the 1^st section of the 3200m, running his best time of the year. If he keeps up the studious nature, he can easily move up higher on the Division 1 podium.
