The List
4. Patrick Byrnes, Plymouth
- Lurking in the shadows of their outstanding teams and individuals, Patrick now becomes the lead runner for Plymouth
- He may be the most talented they’ve had come through their system, thanks in part to his incredible range (1:51, 4:13)
- Reminds me of a young Mike Atchoo
- For some, that 800m ability doesn’t pan out on the XC course, not in his case
- Clutch 15th place finish in 2018 helped secure Plymouth’s state title
- Rated as sub-16 in all his major races last year and showed extreme consistency late
- 3x All-Wayne County, 3x All-Region, 2x All-State
4. Cambrie Smith, Petoskey
- Already a solid runner after her first two years at Gaylord, Cambrie then took a major leap in 2019
- I’m not sure what caused it, but I’m guessing having training partners close to her speed and able to push her played a major role
- Ran a somewhat disappointing State Meet, but the entirety of the season speaks volumes
- Most impressive has to be her race at Spartan, running with the likes of Theis, the Beavercreek girls, and a few girls yet to be named here
- Was able to run a 10:50 3200m indoors, almost a minute PR from her freshman track season
