These are for FUN. They are not the end all, be all.
Currently there are about 5500 boys and 5000 girls with ratings this season. I’d estimate that’s about 80% of the state.
There are some missing, mainly the Downriver League and others that are mainly racing duals. But all it takes is one nugget of info for me to get to those meets. For instance, Haslett ran in the Eaton Rapids Class Invite. They also ran against Mason, who ran against Holt, who has competed in many CAAC Blue meets.
I’ve instituted the HOBBS KESSLER RULE. Without it, he’d be out of the top 25 runners. With it, he’s the top dog. Since he’s smartly saving his energy for the best competition and racing to win otherwise, his overall rating suffers.
The rule is this: take the top 50% of ratings a runner has accumulated, then take the weighted average (the more recent, the higher weight).
The team rankings are based on a hypothetical meet between all the teams in a division.
Top 5 Average is average ratings of a team’s top 5 runners, Top 5 Spread is the difference between their 1st and 5th, and so on.
The Downriver schools have mainly been doing dual meets, which are tougher to generate ratings from. But all it takes is a nugget of info and then I should be able to go through the chain of schools.
I don’t think I offered my opinion on where teams should run, but there’s been plenty of opportunity outside the area. At Benzie, there were teams from metro Detroit, Saginaw, Grand Rapids, Lansing. So I’m confident if a downriver team wanted to race against someone elsewhere, they could.
