Top 27 Teams

Previous years had top-25 teams, but there’s 27 (and sometimes more) team qualifiers and what does it hurt to add another two?

Girls

Johannesburg-Lewiston (Top 7), Harbor Springs (Top 7), East Jordan (26th)

Boys

Johannesburg-Lewiston (Top 7), Petoskey St. Michael (Top 7), Harbor Springs (Top 7)

(If your team isn’t listed in the images above or the scores below, you probably don’t have five returners, at least on ol’ athletic.net. I’m sure many of these teams will fill out their rosters by late October)

Top Runners

Thought I’d give a review of some of the top returners in each region. Returners means no incoming freshman (you’ll get your days in the sun). If you’re gonna be in the 50 Tickets, you’ll get a full writeup there. If you’re on a top team and you’re projected highly here (Harbor Springs, St. Michael, Joburg), you hit the jackpot! Yes, I’m writing a bit less than previous years, but I think I’ve learned my lesson in that I need to conserve energy and brainpower for all divisions and regions. Typically by August, I’m rushing to get these done. This time around, hopefully all regions get the same amount of coverage.

Allie Nowak, Johannesburg-Lewiston

Soon to be junior entered HS as someone to watch and thus far has lived up to the billing. 3rd in Division 4 cross last year and your defending regional champion.

Yolanda Gascho, Johannesburg-Lewiston

First year of high school cross started late, but that didn’t deter her impact. 2nd in Region 28, 7th in Division 4

Miriam Murrell, Gaylord St. Mary

Hard to believe Miriam’s era will be coming to a conclusion this fall and next spring. Four All-States on the grass, three on the track, and two regional cross titles in her illustrious career.

Madalyn Agren, Johannesburg-Lewiston

Battled injury throughout last year but still valiantly competed and contributed to the Cardinal state title. Saw the dividends from that selflessness during track, where she dropped almost 50 seconds from her sophomore 3200m best, dipping down well into the 11’s.

Malaki Gascho, Johannesburg-Lewiston

Still on the mend from injury, Ki battled to a 29th place finish at State. During the spring, we saw results from a full training cycle, where he ran 9:48 in the 3200m, good enough for D4 rank of 7th on the year. Throw away the rankings though, dude powered his way to a 4th place finish at State.

Lynus Cadarette, Petoskey St. Michael

Began to realize his capabilities in October. Low-17 efforts at Bluejay and Portage leading to a championship season that featured a 26th place finish at MIS.

Blake Fox, Johannesburg-Lewiston

Put together the speed shown in his freshman and sophomore track seasons and the strength gained from three years of XC. The work that led to those two attributes combined to form a 1:56 half miler who won Region 31 and placed 2nd at Division 4 State.

Cody Bradley, Petoskey St. Michael

I say this every summer, but each season, Petoskey St. Michael pulls out these freshmen that I’m completely clueless about! Cody is another one, closing his season with two mid-17 efforts in his aiding of the Guardians’ 3rd place MIS finish.

Jeremiah Witt, Johannesburg-Lewiston

First cross country season began with a consistent string of 18 min. performances, then ended in two straight sub-18’s. During the spring, your Ski Valley 3200m champion.
