The Rundown
Last fall, I remember thinking that Kam has finally come into her own and realized all her potential. And then today, I write that bio and it speaks something different – she’s been winning for a longgg time.
In the Goodrich area, she gets it done. Seven titles in Greater Flint, FML, and Regional competition. Against her D2 state peers, three All-States.
But don’t get it twisted, 2023 was her best year yet. Her openers were among the best of her career, at Spartan, breaking 19 earlier than she ever had. Two weeks later at Shepherd, a perfect opportunity came to run a PR and further establish herself as a state contender. Disappointingly, Kam’s Bluejay race ended with a collapse and a slow finish across the line.
I’m not sure if that experience lit a fire or opened her mind to lessons. Perhaps both. Because from that point forward, she racked up four wins, three personal bests, her best state finish ever, and a 17:54 closer.
May the hot streak continue.
