Nikki Carothers

Somehow I missed this during her Ticket, but through her competing at the MITCA postseason meet, Nikki was able to drop 10 seconds from her 1600m best.

Carrigan Eberly

Took her first crack at the 3200m during track, adapting to the event quite successfully with a state qualifier and 30^th place finish at State.

Lydia LaMarra

Closed her freshman year with six consecutive sub-20’s, and even an 18:50 for 5^th in Region 4 at the Meadows.

Elle Bissett

Found a great bit of improvement on the track, especially in the 3200m. Her 11:27 placed 9^th in the KLAA and that 5:43 pace is actually faster than her freshman 1600m best.

Megan Kowalski

Has spent two years in the low-19’s, but improved on her contributions at the State level, moving up from 128^th to 75^th.

Gabrielle Bolitho

2022 fall was a season of first. First time sub-20 (experienced on three occasions), first Regional on the varsity squad (23^rd), and first State Finals appearance.

Juliet Lewis

Freshman year closed with three of four races in the 19’s. Concentrated on the 800m during the spring and to great results, her 2:16 placing 3^rd in Region 4.

The Rundown

Finding his niche on the track these past two years, Brandon has gradually moved up the leaderboards into one of the top mid-distance runners in the State. This was first evident as a freshman, where he ranked in the top-50 Division 1 freshman in the 800m, though he has rocketed these past two years. As a sophomore, he competed exclusively in the 2:0x’s, before closing 0.69 shy of a sub-2. This spring, he left no doubt toward shattering that mark, running back-to-back 1:56’s at Region 4 and Division 1 State. All this talk about track, it ain’t as if he struggles on the grass.

In fact, his ranking here is even more impressive. Many of those on the list have moved up due to their 3200m times, as I believe that distance has a greater correlation to cross success. Concentrating on the 800m this spring, he didn’t have that benefit. During the fall, he closed with six consecutive sub-16’s, including a 15:35 final race at Shepherd. He medaled at everything, from grand stages at Portage and Jackson. And his 12^th place at State was 29 places better than his sophomore season. A guy excelling at everything, who will be a terror for anyone nearby on any finishing stretch.

The Rundown

Two years strong, she’s been a steady high-level performer for Oxford. While her teammates have contributed mightily in the key spots further back, Mallory has held up her end of the bargain up front. Each of the past two years, she’s placed top-5 in the OAA Red, Oakland County, and at Regionals. At the state stage, she’s been in the top-20 on both early November days. I was particularly impressed by her patience at last year’s County championships, letting Lucy Cook go, then waiting for the right moment to seal the runner-up position. More of that patience will be needed this year, patience in the sense that big things again await for her Oxford squad, and she’s ready for another championship season full of honors.
