The Rundown

You just marvel at it when you see it. Bryce’s first year at the high school level was spent hovering around 19:00 and just two years later, he found his way under 16:00. There’s a reason Clarkston is almost always near the top of the Oakland County scene, Bryce is just one of many who have developed from humble beginnings. Other than his 15:56 at the Hansons Invite, all of the rest of his season contained efforts in the 16’s, on tough courses such as Hess Hathaway and Possum Hollow too. Bryce’s evolution didn’t just stop in the fall, he took it to another stratosphere in track, first breaking 2:00 in the 800m at Farmington, then subtracting a whole 4 seconds in the Oakland County final. After a summer of hard work, how will his story continue to unfold?

The Rundown

Year in, year out, she’s been a model of success. She’s done it at every meet, whether that be three straight top-5’s at Regionals, two consecutive league titles, or three All-States. On the cross course, she’s improved every year, at MIS, moving up from 29^th to 25^th to 14^th. And last year, she led her Clarkston team to a surprise berth in the State Finals. Unfortunately, injuries plagued her track season, but if the past is any indication, she’ll have an excellent send off season.

Top Returners

Logan Begeman

In front of the whole state at Portage, he put it all together, and things kept getting better and better from there. 16:04 at his home course was a 30 sec. PB and led the way toward multiple sub-16’s and an All-State.

Nick Cabrera

Season contained more than a handful of sub-17 efforts, which seemed to all coincide with major meets. Regionals, Portage, Otsego Bulldog, and his 16:24 to close at Shepherd.

Owen Gifford

Highly touted freshman lived up to the billing, a few times in cross with sub-17’s. Even more so in track, his 4:35 among the top-10 freshmen in Division 1.

Bruno Cabrera

His 16:54 at Otsego was one of two separate occasions under 17:00. Keep in mind that one year earlier, many of his finishes were 60+ seconds slower.

Abrar Hossen

Showed something in the mid-distance realm during track, popping a 2:00 late in the spring at Houseman Field.

Logan Westgate

Freshman slowly but surely dropped time throughout various points of the year. His last three races of his inaugural season were his best, all sub-17:45. Though to me, the real showstopper was his track season, especially his 1600m, ranking 31^st amongst all D1 freshman with his 4:44.

Matthew Long

I wouldn’t expect anything less from this coach’s son. Consistency! Try to find the bad race in his season, I dare you. 17:30 to 17:50 all throughout, with one minor hiccup.

Cannon Crowe

Went from a kid running above 19:00 as a freshman to someone who was on the cusp of slipping under 17:00 as a sophomore.

Potential Newcomers

Reached down as far as 11:29 to place 6^th in the KAMSL.

Tristan Zhang

Sub-12 in three of his final four races, then sub-5 on the track to end the season.
