The Rundown

One thing I love about Coach Marcum’s group is the way he’s built a community of runners for life. Allie is a prime example of that, as you can tell she’s fully committed to the sport.

One must be committed if they’re brought up as a distance runner, but accumulate pole vault points as a freshman. Or if you go on cross-country, running-based road trips. Or if you train as a tight-knit group, surrounded by very little competition, yet continually make major waves in the sport.

Allie’s commitment has taken her many places these past two years. A team state title at MIS, multiple All-States in many varieties. A memorable last 100 meters at Hudsonville in June. There’s another year, a title to defend, and more records to etch in Cardinal stone.

The Rundown

Doing these rankings and writings, I tend to be desensitized to times, but believe me, Jeb’s been on my radar for awhile now. As a freshman in cross, he was able to slip under 17:00, an admirable mark for any 9th grader. Once a sophomore, you knew a solid season was in the cards once he popped a 17:16 at the tough Michigan Catholic meet. And that came to fruition, albeit a little late, with a 16:13 at MITCA.

His 3200m qualifier in that same sophomore year was NOT a little bit late. Region 13 qualified many on that day in 2023, and Jeb was one of the runners able to step up to the plate. Since that day, he’s shown the guts to get it done on pressure-packed days, such as an OK Gold title this past spring, or a 9:23 (10th place) in the rain at Hamilton. Through ebbs and flows, we’ve seen Jeb come up big late, and trust me, the flow is ever more rapid.

Moises Salazar

Lucas Kuhn

Didn’t have the greatest race here last year. More than made up for it during track, racing to a 5 sec. personal best on that regional stage, his 4:20 ranking as the #9 returner in D2.

Isaak Rubley

For the past two years, Isaak has been in the 16’s for over 75% of his races. And when was above that, such as last year’s State Finals, the next week he was able to bounce back with a season’s best.

Luke Dulecki

Huge performance at Regionals last year, placing 6th, two spots ahead of his projected spot. But it wasn’t the place that shocked, it was the time. Luke’s 16:34 was a 17 sec. PB and almost 40 sec. faster than his best freshman time.

Carter Fenner

Freshman was unable to compete here in Region 18, but was able to gain MIS experience the following week. Showed the ability to grind during outdoor track, hitting a 10:16 3200m with “only” a 4:52 1600m in comparison.

Sophy Skeels

Courtney Bovair

Ayda Skeels

Quickly acquitted to the 5k distance in cross, reaching the 18’s late. Track season was particularly impressive, especially in Ayda’s ability to run 5:10s/11:30s no matter the significance of the meet.

Natalia DeMea

Keeps moving up with each successive year. 18th here in 2021, 9th in ’22, 2nd in ’23. And on the cusp of an All-State bid as well.

Madison Morris

Quite a transformation from her freshman year. Began her career in the 23’s, now in her past two cross races, has been in the 18’s. One of those was here, an 18:55 and a 5th place finish. A 5:26 during the spring suggests more is to come.

Falyn Doss

Sub-20 for a number of races to close her sophomore year. Track showed there’s more to come, as Falyn rattled off a few 12-flat 3200’s.
