The Rundown

Knowing Cros-Lex history and who’s walked through those doors gives so much more significance to Eva’s records. Before Leah Falland, née O’Connor was a US contender and MSU legend in the steeplechase, she was setting records and winning state titles for the Pioneers. Fast forward a decade plus and those records still stood, that is until Eva’s junior year.

Eva’s junior year contained significant improvements. First in the fall, moving from the high-18’s to below 18:30, winning her first BWAC title and attaining another regional victory. But especially so in the spring, where 5:05 became 5:01 and 11:20 became 11:02. And her honors extended beyond the Blue Water area, now on the D2 level, where she found herself on the podium after both the 1600m and 3200m. Another stage awaits in the fall and Eva is well-positioned to make it there.

The Rundown

He’s fresh off his best track season yet. Cusick’s junior year provided significant time drops, most noticeable in the 1600m, where a mid-4:30 kid early in his career transformed into a 4:21 guy on Regional Friday. At double the distance, he rarely raced, but still slashed 40+ seconds off his freshman best. And the 800, officially a 3 second personal best, maybe 4 if we’re counting relays. Those 800m and 1600m races came on a great day for James, each an example of rising to the occasion when it mattered most – a state berth on the line.

He’s been able to do that in cross as well, a major part of his Wildcat team winning Oakland County and qualifying for State. The State Finals themselves haven’t gone the best, though I’m 100% confident that the lessons from this past spring will pay off in the fall.

10th as a freshman to 2nd last year. The real shockers came in track, where 4:32/9:42 and a 3rd place D4 3200m finish occurred.

Lynus Cadarette

Fed up from his race at Mackinaw Club, subsequently going on a streak of three straight sub-17’s, which led the way to another podium finish.

Jeremiah Witt

Lost in the shuffle of the Joburg greats was a kid like Jeremiah, moving from 68th in D4 as a sophomore to 24th one year later.

His 4:33 in the 1600m ranks 13th amongst D4 returners.

More to come in future writings, but can we admire her movement in the 800m? 2:32 to 2:21 to 2:13 (and a state championship!).

Jane Manthei

The 10:57 may have been her BEST time of the year, but the one that undoubtedly carried the most meaning was a 11:17 3-spot in D4’s 3200m, making it back-to-back All-States.

Stevi Reskevics

First taste of high school racin’ was a 19 minute special. Last three were as well, including a 16th place finish down in Brooklyn.

Side note: I’m skipping around writing these, but it does seem like Region 28 has more returning All-Staters than any other region.

Juniper Rodham

Began the year with a personal best and ended it with the two best efforts of her career – 19:28 here and a 19:48 at State.

Harlie Fox

Might not yet be blastin’ 800s like Blake, but she can find her way around a cross course like he could. Three straight sub-20’s to close out the regular season, one of those being a 17th place at MIS.

Avery Langlois

Glad to be wrong on the D4 Final Projections. Predicted 38th, finished 12th, an excellent example of showing up on the day.

Yolanda Gascho

Repeated the feats two years in a row. Back to back All-States and seasons of sub-20 in ‘em.

Elizabeth Furman

Only took six races to drop down into the 20’s, a place she was at for both Regionals and State.
