The Rundown

As one heads toward the infield, they’re faced with crowds, excitement, and thoughts of their name going down in state history. Onto the infield, what seems like a quick finish slowly churns into a feeling where one knows they’ll have to grind for another 1000m.

Clipping 2 miles in 10:22, Gus was in 13th place, far from someone who would have a memorable performance. Gut check time for many. How do you want your next year to feel? Can you live with the regrets for the rest of your running life? I believe that final, lonesome stretch can reveal much about someone’s internal positivity or struggles.

For Gus, they revealed an inner strength. From the 2 mile mark on, he ran the fastest time of anyone in the field (including winner Collin Farmer). 5:29.9, 4:58 pace for those final 1.1 miles. Passing 12 folks on the way to a runner-up finish. 3 of those 12 occurred in the final 173 meters.

Heart will be on display in 2024. If you’d like to witness, find Gus.

Kamari Ronfeldt

To be featured later!

Beckett Crooks

Jacob Szalay

Spent the majority of his freshman year in the 16’s. The best performances were probably an 8th place regional finish and the 7th best freshman in D1 at MIS.

Theo Sacks-Thomas

Hit PB after PB after PB in his final three races of the year.

Pierce Scheffler

2x state qualifier out of Region 5.

Brennan LaRusso

Placed top-15 in all of the SEC Jamborees and matched his PB at State with a 16:21.

Brady Boroniec

Projected 14th over here in Region 5, finished 6th. With the Jags qualifying by a mere 4 points, that outstanding race from Brady was very much needed.

A’nyla Robinson

Corynn Gady

Consistent figure in the SEC Red for the Hornets. In the 1600m, 3200m, and XC – never finished outside of the top-5.

Lillian Schlack

Went from not being on Saline’s varsity regional squad as a freshman to a sophomore who earned a spot. A prominent one, mind you, as she placed 6th in this tough region.

Sophie Roth

On track to be a part of that Saline mid-distance tradition, ranked 9th amongst Michigan freshmen in the 800m.

Grace Roth

Has always been a bit more of a longer distance girl. Improved a lil’ bit from her sophomore year, dropping 10 sec. to 11:21 and placing 2nd in the SEC Red.

Iva Ravindra

Closed out her freshman year with 6 of 7 races under 20-flat.

Abby Roth

Another Roth coming off a solid track season, where she placed 7th in the SEC Red 3200m.

The Rundown

I’d call her the missing piece, but I fear that’s a little dramatic. But if you look to Romeo’s State Finals race and take Lillian out of the lineup, their run towards a championship becomes a little more difficult.

After a successful first two seasons at Grosse Pointe North, featuring state qualifiers in the fall and spring, Lillian and her family moved to Romeo. Both are schools that have had a history of pumping out great runners, so it was only natural that she’d continue to improve even taking into account the stress of moving to a new environment.

At GPN, her real coming out party was her sophomore year of track, where she ran in the low-5’s and low-11’s, hitting state qualifiers in each event. The following fall at Romeo was a continuation of that pattern, especially late in the year, where reeled off sub-19’s at Macomb County, State, and NXR. Personally, what impressed me was just that, absorbing new training/coaching/surroundings, then applying that to her first All-State ever.

The ability to adapt will undoubtedly be a positive characteristic in life and whatever is thrown at her this upcoming season.
