The Rundown



Seeing signs throughout the early seasons of Noah’s career, one could foretell how much he’d shine these days. Early in his career for Noah, that was on the track. The May of his freshman year, he closed the season with a number of 4:4x efforts in the 1600m, placing top-10 in Region 1 and ranking #9 among all freshman that spring. A 4:41 became a 4:27, and then that 4:27 gave way to a fall with a number of sub-16 efforts.

You know it’s a good season when you keep running personal bests during championship season, which Noah accomplished during his junior year. 15:54 at Portage, 15:49 at Shepherd’s regional, then 15:46 at MITCA. By my numbers, his 16:00 at State beats all of those. And the progress just continued into indoor, where he set a personal best in the 800m. To outdoor, where he blasted through that personal best, powering to a 1:54 to finish 7th in a battle at the Division 1 State Finals 800m. From year to year, season to season, he keeps on the train of progress. And at the rate it’s going, anything is possible, on the track and especially on the grass.

The Rundown



Eighth at the mile. Fifth at two. Second at the finish. Emma’s race plan at the Division 2 Cross Country Finals was among the best in the field, patiently moving up with even splits (5:58, 5:54, 5:59), before sealing the runner-up honor with a blistering final 160m. Not only was she running for herself, she was running for her Bulldog teammates with the hope of a State Championship in mind. The Otsego depth came through, as did Emma. That State Finals race wasn’t the only one in her season, as she was sub-19 on multiple occasions and at major meets.

She didn’t have the immaculate performance on the track as she did during cross, but dang she was consistent, with a multitude of 5:1x’s and 11:1x’s, qualifying for the D2 Finals in each. That’s alright, you can’t knock it out of the park on every single race. But having done it once before at MIS, if there’s anyone in the field that can do it again, I’m betting on Emma.

Top Runners

Thought I’d give a review of some of the top returners in each region. Returners means no incoming freshman (you’ll get your days in the sun). If you’re on a top team or in the 50 Tickets and you’re projected highly here, you hit the jackpot! Yes, I’m writing a bit less than previous years, but I think I’ve learned my lesson in that I need to conserve energy and brainpower for all divisions and regions. Typically by August, I’m rushing to get these done. This time around, hopefully all regions get the same amount of coverage.

Emmry Ross, Onsted

Some wondered how a bunch of mid-2:20’s during her freshman year of track would translate to cross country. Oh, they translated into a relentlessly aggressive racer. Undefeated until her 3^rd place at State, Emmry picked up championships at Lenawee County, LCAA, and Region 23.

Madison Osterberg, Jackson Lumen Christi

For all the time I spend looking at times and numbers, I guess I didn’t realize how fast Madison was during her junior regular season. Twice under 18:10, at Jackson then again at Portage, before finally breaking through with a 17:54 at MITCA.

Ava Hathaway, Bronson

Numerous accomplishments during her initial year racing for the Vikings. Wins at all three Big 8 Jamborees to go along with a 14^th place finish down the road at MIS.

Macy Fazekas, Jackson Lumen Christi

Stepped up at the start of the year as LC’s #2 girl and held down that role for the entire season. Along the way, half her races were of the 19-min. variety.

Chloe Stallhood, Hillsdale

Two consecutive years that she’s been sub-20 by years’ end. Her 2022 version contained a 4^th place finish her and top-40 placing at State.

Isaiah Dinverno, Jackson Lumen Christi

Closed his sophomore fall with a ton of sub-17’s and a bunch of huge performances – including 3^rd here and an All-State.

Mitchell Hiatt, Onsted

Knocked off two whole minutes from his freshman year. And it wasn’t just one race – Mitch was sub-17 on 4 separate occasions.

Alex Czeiszperger, Hudson

Brings his best performances when the stakes are high. Top-40 finishes at MIS, with one of those being the All-State he achieved as a mere freshman.

Nolan Grant, Hillsdale

Before he had a track season that gave promise towards his senior year, he had a junior cross campaign that featured his first sub-17 ever and a top-5 regional finish.

Gannon Shore, Jackson Lumen Christi

Always pull some sort of magic towards the end of the year. As a sophomore, that was his first sub-17 at Turkeyville. Last year, a top-5 regional finish, moving up 17 spots from his sophomore year.
