WEEK ONE RANKINGS

WEEK FOUR RANKINGS

Hit the links above if you want to compare to previous rankings.

Times are from meets listed on athleticnet by Sunday night and are FAT only (well, except for the Upper Peninsula, where I made an exception and included hand times).

No excuses this time, there are writeups! And the rankings go 50 deep.

What a day for Annika Sandman at the GR Elite Challenge. She kicked off her Saturday with the elite mile, running a 4:59 (with the camera at 1600m showing 4:57.6), nearly matching her best effort from 2022’s State Finals. But it’s the double back for me, where she came back and wrecked the 3200m field with a 10:31. I’ve always felt the longer stuff is her expertise, but that’s a wow-inducing level of strength.

Division 2’s 800m boss is back and in a major way. After busting the rust in a tri against GR Christian and Byron Center, Camryn Bodine dominated the Cougar Invite with a 5+ second victory. The result was a 2:12.38, a personal best. That personal best is only slightly faster than her previous best, but I like to think of it this way: her previous April best was a 2:17. Can’t wait to watch and see how she progresses further and if her 2-year undefeated streak continues.

It was just a weekend of impressive doubles and triples, another example being Madison Osterberg’s efforts at Leslie. Ripping an 800m and then 10-15 min. later, suffering through 8 laps seems hellish to me, but I guess she just wanted to get through those 3200m as quickly as possible. Her 10:50 (a personal best by over a minute!) does make one wonder, what can she run fresh? I’m not sure if we’ll get another effort in an invitational, but this does bode well for her senior year of cross and if she plans to run the 1600m at State.

Okay, I really try not to repeat the same names, but seriously Aiden Harrand? 2:11/4:53/10:54 in one dang meet. She has a great chance of pulling off the distance triple as she’s shown to be more than capable of recovering in time for her next event. Add in some sprints, the long jump, and a relay, and those Bears have a real chance of lifting a trophy in early June.

In the Upper Peninsula’s 2022 Division 2 Finals, Lola Korpi attained the vaunted distance triple. Now it appears she might have a challenger, Pickford’s Talya Schreiber. At Pickford’s home Web Morrison Invite, Schreiber won all three distance events, with the 800m and 1600m in D2 leading times.
