EXPLANATION

This is the qualifying chart for inclusion in these rankings. The 800m-3200m are the additional regional qualifiers, the 4×8 is what the regional qualifier would be (the ratio of the regional qualiifer:state qualifier in the 800 x the state qualifier in the 4×8).

WEEK ONE RANKINGS

WEEK FOUR RANKINGS

To be included in these rankings, marks had to be uploaded to athletic.net by Monday Night and had to be FAT (with the exception of the UP).

I heard through the grapevine about Sebastian Cervelli’s dual against Farmington. A 1:57 4×8 leg where he went out in 54, 4:28 in the 1600m, 1:58.4 in the 800m, then a 50.3 closer on the 4×4. And I thought to myself, yeah he’s got 1:53-1:54 in him at State. I was partially right, he proved to have 1:54 in him… six weeks before State. The already crowded D1 800m just got a bit more intriguing.

I’m not sure if it’s harder to come back and double in the same meet or get a night’s rest, wake up sore, recover mentally, and come back racing the following morning. Following a 4:16 personal best in the 1600m at the Barnyard, Kyle Eberhard joined his Linden team at Brighton, winning the 3200m in the early morning and coming back to win a thrilling, wire to wire dogfight against Ty Parker (who also came back the next day!).

He’s always been a guy I’ve known for his strength, twice All-State in cross, twice top-10 in the 3200m, but it appears he’s added some speed to his portfolio. Clayton Ackley busted out a 6 second outdoor personal best (matched his indoor effort from January) in the 1600m at Kent City Elite, then came back for another win in the 3200m. He’s already gone 9:34 in the 32 this year, but I bet he’s got much more in him. On Friday, we’ll see if that’s the case…

Competing for the Up North Elite during indoor, Dakota Dykhuis got the chance to run with his newfound brothers, and work out with those at his talent level. We’re seeing the payoff of that winter work now, where the speedster has reached even new heights. Sub-2 in the 800m at the first MSAC Jamboree and a 4:23 at Ithaca were both significant PBs and rank him in the top-5 in D4 in each event.

In the athleticnet era, the best 3200m effort by a UP freshman has been Luke Hills’ 10:11 from 2021. Sault Ste. Marie’s Gabe Litzner just cruised to a 9:48. That’s the paragraph.
