Tuesday, the running community lost another one much too soon. Calli (Townsend) Newberry was a standout hurdler and athlete at Croswell-Lexington and Hillsdale. At Hillsdale, she wrote for their Hillsdale Collegian, then took her passion back home to cover sports in the Blue Water Area. You can read the social media posts and news articles, her empowerment of athletes and selflessness showed through in her work and interactions with others. I know she had a great impact on the Cros-Lex teams and had uplifting interactions with many of our track athletes. She even fit me into her busy schedule, interviewing me as her young child fell asleep in her lap. Calli leaves behind her parents, two brothers, husband, and her four-month-old girl.

Continuing on the best crews theme that I’ve done this year, I’ve compiled one final ranking. Same formula as always, recognizing the teams with the best depth in their respective areas.
I want to do individual rankings for each event area. High Jump and Long Jump have competitors that do both, but it isn’t the norm as it might be for throws or hurdles. I won’t put a graphic on social media, but at the end of the post, I’ll have rankings for those that competed in both events.
