STEPPIN’ UP ON REGIONAL DAY

Two surprises from two races that were thought to give some intrigue. The Roscommon boys were called out in the projections for being a team that has progressed of late, buoyed by the movement of their youngster Chris Worley. He surely brought it again, getting down into the 18’s for the first time in his burgeoning career. Another Buck that’s been on the improvement trail has been Hunter Bonner, racing to PR in his past three races. If Bonner raced in the 18’s as he had for the majority of the season, Roscommon would be staying home this upcoming weekend.

The Region 28 girls race played out somewhat similarly to how it was projected, but it was Rogers City AND East Jordan advancing instead of battling it out for the 3^rd spot. The Hurons were able to place four girls in the top-20, the math working out in their favor in terms of a qualifier. The Red Devil depth was crucial in their advancement, as East Jordan had the 2^nd best 4^th and 5^th girls in the field.

Individually, there were some standouts as well:

Ruby Okma, Elk Rapids – another athlete that’s turned it on these past few weeks. The freshman has seemingly gotten the hang of XC, racing to sub-21’s in her past three outings, the latest of which was a 20:35 qualifier to MIS.

Keagan Beyer, Onaway – newcomer to the sport as a junior. Has also been learning quickly, with 1.5 months of racing under his belt, was able to capture 3^rd in the Ski Valley. That was his first 17-min. effort of the year, Saturday was his third.
