The Rundown

A familiar name by this point! Featured here in 2022 and again in 2023, this is Isabelle’s third year of being a top returner. And that title is well-earned, both looking at her career and her 2023-24 season.

In terms of time and place, her cross season was her best yet. I mentioned last year how I love Nesbitt’s scheduling, how it sets up for a fast close to the season. The evidence of that brilliance was shown with Becker – winning another Bay County Championship, then running a PR at the SVL Championship, having her best regional finish ever, then another PR with her best State Finals finish ever.

She’s so well-rounded on the track too. During her sophomore spring, she opted for a 3200m qualifier. This past one, more concentration was laid on the shorter stuff, knocking 4 sec. off her 800m best and flirting with a sub-60 400m.

Excellent in every aspect of distance running and a name we can count on in November.

The Rundown

It’s now five straight years of the Maples making it to the XC State Finals, a mark that the program has incredible culture and a penchant for producing quality athletes. Moises is yet another one in the tradition of great runners to come through the Adrian doors.

Since donning the blue & white, he’s been a steady figure in the 15’s and 16’s, all but two of his races under 17:00. Contained within those races have been numerous awards – top-10’s at each of the County, Conference, and Regional levels. He’s shown up with everything on the line, running the fastest freshman time at MIS in 2022 and backing it up with another All-State in 2023. This outdoor season saw progress in the 1600m, where he went from 4:30 to 4:24, which ranked 13th amongst all 9th and 10th graders.

Leading Adrian to even more trips to Brooklyn, Moises Salazar.

Anthony Rowe

Been hearing about Anthony for years now and track season showed me why. A 4:41 personal best in his most important race earned him a state qualifier and opportunity to get some State Finals track experience.

Carter Clark

Embraced the switch from Region 33 to 30, moving up 29 places and dropping nearly 2 minutes (on a tougher course, mind you!). He was 5th here last year and it appears that Carter can move up even further.

Wesley Chaffee

A little under the radar, but a name to watch in the future. Wesley earned top-10 freshman marks in the 1600m and 3200m.

Kristian Coon

All that thinking about the State Meet led to a race where he both outperformed his projected spot (82nd to 72nd) and outperformed his previous PR (17:56 to 17:40).

Rodney Iamurri

A name I’ve been writing for years and a name that’s ever present at the regional level. Three consecutive 8th place finishes and three consecutive State qualifiers.

Abigail Davis

Vestaburg ain’t done yet with impactful runners. She’s your defending regional champ and I’m always impressed given where she started, a 33:00+ race at the start of her career. Abigail is a great candidate to move up from her 26th place State finish, hot off a track season where she ran 5:12/11:25, crossing the D4 State line 4th in each.

Ally Schmitz

Always finds a way to bring her best at season’s end. Two years ago, this was a PB at Chippewa Hills that secured a Breckenridge win, last year it was a major PB at State, her first race in the 19’s.

Danica Aldrich

Comes off the best track season of her career, where a 5:47 dropped 12 sec. from her previous best. And then a 12:14 in her first year embracing eight laps, was good enough for 20th at D4 State.

Anna Sheppard

Got rollin’ when October came around. Two 20:27’s at Portage and Class D led to a 3rd place finish here and top-60 spot at MIS.

Nolee Leppert

Initial high school XC season came with many honors, including a Highland Conference Championship and a State Qualifier.
