Top Returners

Clara Fletcher

Just gets better each and every year. Was a commendable mid-20 girl as a freshman that’s turned into a regional champ, 2x All-Stater, and capped her junior fall with an 18:24.

Abby Young

Had gone 2 season and over 20 races before getting under 20:00. Then after Bath, when Abby got there for the first time, she was in the 19’s on all but one occasion. 24th at Division 2 State in her second appearance, moving up 177 spots since her freshman year.

Miriam Kloha

I like comparing how an athlete fares from jamboree to jamboree, being that it’s the same competition for the most part. In the CAAC Red, Miriam placed 8th, then 7th, then 6th. Slow progress throughout the year.

Sylvia Thomas

Another example of many in a program known for its development. Has improved from a 23-24 min. girl to one that closed the ’22 season with seven consecutive sub-21’s.

Potential Newcomers

Ava Schafer

One of the better incoming freshmen girls in the state. As an 8th grader, nearly every race was in the 11’s, with major wins at Jr. Greater Lansing and Zone 5.

The Rundown

Iain has had the blessing of learning from and watching some greats grow. His first two years in high school, Iain was there to witness Kenny Minto and Brady McArdle undertake growth, learn, fail, and leave as decorated Davison athletes. Iain has had some spectacular efforts, whether that be breaking 10:00 in the 3200m as a sophomore, his 3rd place at the SVL Championship this past fall, or capturing the league title in the 3200m this spring. He’s also had his share of disappointments, namely a State Finals where he was unable to finish. We all have disappointments in life, the question is – how do we respond? Iain responded the next week at MITCA with one of his better efforts of the year. He responded during track by qualifying for Division 1 State, then pushing through tough conditions to place 18th. That’s the mental fortitude that will be a major advantage come fall.

The Rundown

I really loved Carrigan’s bio from the Brighton Girls XC website. Emanating from her writing is her love for her team, and if you look at Brighton’s success in the years she’s been a part of the program, you can see she’s been a contributor to an amazing program. During her three years of varsity running, the Bulldogs have captured two Regionals and one KLAA crown, while placing top-10 in the State each year. Midway through last season, having missed considerable time from mid-September on, it appeared Carrigan might not be on their championship squad. But Eberly was able to come back and run some of her better times. Armed with a track season that contained her best distance times, look for Carrigan to be in the mix as Brighton contends for many more titles.
