Yes, it’s not a coincidence that Ethan and Solomon are right next to each other in these rankings
They’re both from Oakland County schools that aren’t traditional powers and each had a track season beyond any season prior
I really could have placed the two in the same spot, but Solomon had a slightly faster 3200m during track
Solomon made his hay primarily during outdoor and especially late
After qualifying in both the 1600m and 3200m, his first MHSAA State qualifiers ever, he busted out a 9:22 at State
This really came out of nowhere, he hadn’t broken 5:00 the previous spring, and although sub-17 is mighty impressive, 9:20s are in a whole ‘nother galaxy
This sets the stage for cross country, Cranbrook has a real chance of making it out of Region 16, and they’ll require Solomon’s low stick and a bit of his track magic to lead the team into early November racing

Ashley came into high school experienced at the 5k distance and with the ability to handle competition
She had run at a few of the postseason meets during her younger years, the latest of which was a 19:20 at 2020’s Meet of Champions
In track competition, she went toe to toe with Lucy Cook in Oakland County’s 1600m and won the 800m on the same day
Fast forward to cross country and that recipe resulted in a girl who brought her best in big meets
Bath? Personal best.
Holly, Oakland County, FML, Regionals? Top-3 finishes
State? Unreal personal best.
No matter the stage, Ashley delivered
And although she unfortunately was unable to compete during track, we know Coach Brinker plus her mindset will take her back to those places in a few months
