Last summer, I mistakenly had Eliza listed as a future Dexter runner following her superb 8th grade cross year, I knew little of her whole athletic portfolio
When she’s not running cross, she’s running point, playing with tenacity and setting up her teammates for easy buckets
When she is running cross country, she’s finding the results as well
YAP doesn’t belong to a conference in XC, so a majority of Eliza’s races were in major invites
And with that steady stream of faster fields, she rose to the occasion, capturing victories at quite a few of the early season ones
The confidence gained from those September races served Eliza well come late fall, where she finished 2nd in one of the tougher D3 regionals, then top-10 at State
After a long season on the hardwood, track wasn’t a thing, but I’m confident she’ll be sticking her nose in it come fall

He’s come back from a setback before, he’s hungry to do it again
Take a peek at that sophomore chart for Colin and you’ll notice a cutoff after what looked to be a superb start to his 10th grade expedition
Though a stress fracture derailed his mission in the fall of 2020, he came out of the adversity a stronger runner in the spring of 2021
That spring, Colin established himself as one of the sophomores to watch in both the 1600m and 3200m, the concentration on those longer distances giving hope to awards on the grass
Those awards came: All-Region, among the best in Kent County and the OK Red, and All-State (outperforming the projections by 20+ spots)
Just as he was experiencing a modicum of honors, this winter, another stress injury attempted to throw him off track
Drawing on that past comeback, Colin again persevered, hitting personal bests in the 800m and 1600m, those small steps likely giving way to larger ones in September, October, and November
