Finally finished with the summer previews, onto REAL, ACTUAL performances by the great kids making up the sport in our state!
You’re gonna have to bear with me as I build out the 2025 apparatus and how I want the posts to appear this year. There are some areas I think I’ve shored up, getting the math done even quicker, so more time can be spent focused on the athletes. No I have not learned how to program (I never will – sounds boring), everything is still pumped out in trusty ‘ol Excel. The graphics below are from previous years, the plan is to update those over Labor Day weekend.
As always, I’ll do my best to give a few shoutouts on these posts. Early in the season, these will be concentrated on names I don’t immediately recognize or athletes that are running much faster than I had anticipated. If someone’s given love, they probably deserve it, because there’s a ton of dedication that goes into finding those improvements. If you’re a coach/parent/teammate that feels someone deserves a mention, nicely e-mail/message me, and I’ll do my best to write some words about that person.

The first night race on Bay City Western’s new course. Early returns on this course say it’s a fair track. Hopefully I can get out there someday.
LIGHTING UP THE NIGHT
Elise Barden, Frankenmuth
The best opener that the ‘Muth senior has ever had. In all three of her previous years, Elise had found her way into the 19’s. But also in those three seasons, she had openers that were all above 20:30. A 19:16 opener here gives great hope that she can have the fastest season of her career.
Xavier Solgot, Macomb L’Anse Creuse North
The LCN Crusader had a breakout track season that’s only continuing on this fall. After breaking into the 16’s and placing in the top-10 at the prestigious Macomb County Championship, Xavier embarked on a track season that saw him rise to be the 6th fastest Michigan freshman in the 3200m. He’s been in the 16’s twice already to start the year, including a 16:12 at Lamplighter that was over a minute quicker than his 2024 time.

LATE AUGUST STANDOUTS
Caroline Randall, Hastings
Last year at this time, Randall wasn’t even competing. So it’s a pleasure to see her hopefully complete a full season. But if the 2024 season is any indication, does she need a full year? Randall won the I-8 conference last year and placed 20th in D2. Already, she’s run a bit faster than her sophomore best, her 18:25 at Under the Lights was nearly a 10 sec. improvement than her sophomore best.
Cole Wisniewski, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s
More and more, appears to be fully recovered from the 2023 season. The ascendancy began late last year, closing with a 16:28 at State and 16:18 at MITCA. Cole then excelled in the mid-distance during track, breaking 2:00 in the MITCA 800m and placing 4th in Oakland County’s 1600m. Early on, his fitness has showed in the humidity at Lamplighter and a personal best traversing the Cass Benton hills. Two great indicators for the season to come.

A 9th grader barreling toward the low-17’s at Cass Benton. I wouldn’t be shocked if Ashton Kashat is a contributor to the Northville squad at season’s end.
